बासरीच्या आख्यायिका बासरी तयार करण्यासाठी लागणारा बांबू हा तिथी पाहून तोडतात.  पंचमी, सप्तमी, अष्टमी, नवमी, दशमी या तिथींना बांबू तोडला तर त्याला हमखास कीड लागते, असं बासरी तयार करणारे सांगतात.    त्याचं कारण म्हणजे या तिथींमध्ये शेवटी 'मी' येतो. याच 'मी'पणाच्या अहंकारातून कार्यनाश होतो आणि बासरी टिकत नाही, असा समज आहे. कृष्णाचं आवडतं वाद्य बासरी. एकदा कृष्णाच्या सगळ्या सख्या, गोपी बासरीवर चिडल्या आणि म्हणाल्या, आम्ही त्या कृष्णाची एवढी स्तुती करतो, त्याच्या आजूबाजूला वावरतो, पण तो आम्हाला साधा भावही देत नाही.    तू तर एवढी साधी; ना रूप ना काही. पण तो तुला सतत ओठांशी धरून असतो.    तू अशी काय जादू केली आहेस त्याच्यावर? बासरी हसली आणि म्हणाली, 'तुम्ही माझ्यासारख्या व्हा, मग कृष्ण तुम्हालाही जवळ घेईल.'    अर्थ न कळून गोपींनी बासरीकडे पाहिलं. बासरी पुढे म्हणाली, 'मी अगदी सरळ आहे; ना एखादी गाठ, ना एखादं वळण. मी पोकळ आहे. त्या पोकळीतून माझ्यातला अहंकार गळून पडलाय.   माझ्या अंगावरच्या सहा भोकांतून काम, क्रोध, लोभ, मोह, मद, मत्सर हे रिपू मी काढून टाकले आहेत.   मला स्वत:चा आवाजही नाही.. माझ्या सख्यानं फुंकर मारली तरच मी बोलते.   तो जशी फुंकर मारतो तशी मी बोलते.' गोपी निरुत्तर झाल्या.   तेव्हापासून त्या बासरीवर रुसून आहेत.    म्हणूनच असेल कदाचित, पण आज आपल्याकडे एकही स्त्री बासरीवादक नाही………..!      Regards, Shitij........
