दूरस्थ कुणी दे तुझ्या करी ही कविता

वाहते जिच्यातुनि त्याची जीवन-सरिता,

खळखळे, अडथळे, सुके, कधी फेसाळे

परि अखंड शोधे वाट समुद्राकरिता

खडकाळ प्रान्त तो ही जेथून निघाली

पथ शोधित आली रानातून अकेली,

नच रम्य राउळे, कलापूर्ण वा घाट

तीरावर तुरळक परि अंकुरती वेली

नव पर्णाच्या या विरल माण्डवाखाली,

होईल सावली कुणा, कुणास कहाली,

तोषेल कुणी, शापील कुणी दुर्वास,

"या जळोत समिधा-भव्य हवी वृक्षाली !"

समिधाच सख्या या, त्यात कसा ओलावा,

कोठून फुलापरि वा मकरन्द मिळावा?

जात्याच रुक्ष या, एकच त्या आकांक्षा,

जात्याच रुक्ष या, एकच त्या आकांक्षा,

कवी - कुसुमाग्रज
